Marc Campfield’s Racing CV

At the age of Age 12 I started racing Karts, Racing Number No 98 (same as my dad).

I first started off indoor karting at Aldershot when I was about 12. My two younger brothers started at the same time as me and they are called Adrian and Jack. Adrian was 11 and Jack 10.

We all went to St Peters Catholic School in Guildford and then Godalming College.

In 2002 I won the Formula6 junior prokart championship.

Championships/Races won so far:- and in my first year of racing my own go kart.

  • Formula 6 Junior Prokart Championship.
  • 2001-2002 winter championship at Sandown Park
  • The clubmans cup in the winter endurance championship at Sandown Park with a team called DAM KIDS. 5th overall up against adults running senior prokarts.
  • Several club races at Sandown Park

My dad Paul races cars and I have been brought up around motor sport because he has been racing for about 20 years. At the moment he races a Eddie Jordans 1980 historic March 803 formula 3 and a full race Austin Healey 3000. Plus karting for me and my two brothers, he has no time and no money left.

(March is the make of car, 803 is a 1980 formula 3)

Why I started karting was because watching my dad race for 10 years makes me want to have a go. Who wouldn’t?

Longest drive to a circuit was to Larkhall in Scotland it took about 12 hours and Rowrah, while I was racing in Cumbria, dad was racing his classic f3 at the gold cup meeting at Oulton Park racing circuit nr Chester

We won the f6 series in style, we just had to finish, but won the last race of the year with my brother Adrain in second. Dad was a nervous wreck watching it.

I won 5 out of the ten races , whilst also doing the super 2 Honda Challenge. The person that ran us this year was Peter Gorman and my dad.

In 2003 we started racing Rotax Karts, still LRG, with some good results in Super One and at club level, then in 2005 my Dad bought me a Austin Healey Sprite, which we started racing. Unfortunately, I rolled it at Brands at paddock bend, and made a bit of a mess of the car. We rebuilt it for the last two races of the season, but then decided to have a good go for 2006. The roll was not my fault, we had rear suspension that was locking solid after about one inch of travel on the shocks, I was always on two wheels which looked spectacular but was not that quick.

Well for 2006, we went out and basically won the championship, although it all came down to the last race of the year, where a class win gave us the good result. In 2006 I also won the Donald Healey Sprite Memorial race at Mallory, in the wet. I won the race by 26 seconds from the full race cars, and had a fantastic time.

For 2007 we bought the Nigel Adams full race frogeye sprite, the car is fantastic and beautifully prepared, so far we have had two outright wins and two lap records, although at Brands I had no clutch for the race which was a bit difficult.

Won the championship for 2007 on countback after having tied for points with Dave Smithies. This is despite having a serious accident at Oulton Park which resulted in new chassis legs and a front end rebuild in two weeks (thanks Dad!). I also set 7 lap records and had outright wins at all the races we attended.
